Katie Taves, LPC

My Approach to Therapy

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 15 years of experience working with clients in both community mental health settings and private practice. I utilize evidence-based techniques from modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), self-compassion, and mindfulness, to offer a robust and individualized approach. I’m also a trauma-informed provider with training in trauma-focused CBT.

I have specialized training in working with perinatal clients. Whether you are a new (or new again) parent struggling with postpartum symptoms or a parent feeling challenged by your child’s behavior, I am glad you are here. I am passionate about supporting parents and families through various stages and seasons. This includes loss, infertility, pregnancy, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs), and parenting challenges in early childhood. I appreciate every family’s journey to parenthood is unique, which is why I emphasize a client-centered approach based on respect and collaboration. I also acknowledge that if you are experiencing perinatal depression and anxiety symptoms, it can feel very distressing - even scary - and asking for help is a huge step. Together, we will identify strategies to enable you to be more resilient, hopeful, and confident.

I enjoy working with parents of young children who experience challenges related to emotion regulation, adjustment/life transitions, and anxiety. I draw from neuropsychology to help parents understand the brain-body connection and its important role in emotion regulation. I also incorporate play-based interventions to increase cooperation and joy in everyday moments.
