Experience and Training
I earned my undergraduate degree in psychology and women's and gender studies from Washington University in St. Louis. I pursued my Masters and Doctoral degrees at the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University, where I focused my doctoral dissertation on the impact of racism and colorism on the body image concerns of women of color, employing Objectification Theory as a guiding framework. This research significantly shapes my therapeutic approach, emphasizing intersectional factors in mental health.
During my clinical training at teaching hospitals like Mt. Sinai and NYU’s Woodhull Hospital in New York, I gained invaluable experience working with diverse patient populations of children and adults in both in-patient and out-patient settings. This included individuals facing life transitions, substance abuse, trauma, and issues related to gender and sexuality
Continuing education and specialized training remain essential to my practice. I have pursued extensive postgraduate training in perinatal mental health, EMDR, and third-party reproduction, providing consultation and testing for clients utilizing Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) in collaboration with local fertility clinics.
I hold certifications in perinatal mental health and EMDR from Postpartum Support International, The Postpartum Stress Center, EMDRIA, The Syzegy Institute, and The Touchstone Institute..
Today, I am dedicated to teaching and training future mental health professionals as a clinical instructor at GWU. I actively contribute to perinatal and reproductive mental health education through writing and speaking engagements. Additionally, I serve as the Vice President of the DC Metro Perinatal Mental Health Collaborative and a board member ofthe DC Chapter of Postpartum Support International, advocating for mental health awareness and support within the community.
Therapeutic Approach
I employ an integrative therapeutic approach, blending my training in psychodynamic and relational therapy with evidence-based therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I also integrate Mindfulness-Based therapies, Internal Family Systems (IFS), feminist psychotherapy models, and motivational interviewing (MI) into my work. I work hard to tailor therapy to each person’s unique needs to best meet their therapeutic goals.
My style is collaborative, engaging, and holistic, and I strive to bring my whole self into my work. My clients have described me as personable, relatable, and authentic. I’m gentle and compassionate, but unafraid to be direct when needed.
