Coping During the Coronavirus- Strategy #3

Setting Limits

With the fast-paced changing nature of the news about Covid-19, many of us find ourselves glued to the news. I’m guilty of it to- checking the news when I first wake up in the morning, getting distracted by an alert on my phone when I’m playing with my children or eating a meal. Obviously, it is wise to stay informed but pay attention to what happens when you read the news or scroll through twitter.

Does your heart rate go up?

Do you start to feel worry about the future?

I know I do. This is where setting limits come in. This will look different for everyone. I’m committing to setting limits on news consumption- no news 30 minutes before bedtime and no news when I first wake up. I’m also committing to setting discrete times to check the news, rather than checking it randomly throughout the day. Limit setting is a great way to improve your ability to stay present and grounded and regulate your anxiety.

What limits will you commit to today?
